Who is Kaila Kuhn?

Kaila Kuhn from Boyne City, Michigan competes in freestyle aerials for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Olympic gold, mixed team aerials, Milano Cortina 2026; 2025 world champion in women's aerials and mixed team aerials; first World Cup win, Lake Placid, Jan. 12, 2026

From gymnastics in Michigan to aerials in Park City

Kuhn is originally from Boyne City, Michigan. Her U.S. Ski & Snowboard bio says she moved from competitive gymnastics to aerials at 12 after an invitation to a recruitment camp, and came through the Park City Ski & Snowboard Elite Aerial Development Program before making the national team. She has been on the U.S. team since 2020. TownLift reported in January 2026 that she lives in Park City and is a University of Utah student, and U.S. Ski & Snowboard's 2026-27 roster lists her college as the University of Utah.

She was 15 when she competed at the 2019 World Championships at Deer Valley, finishing 13th, by FIS records.

Two world titles in four days

At the 2025 World Championships in St. Moritz, Kuhn won mixed team gold with Chris Lillis and Quinn Dehlinger on March 27, landing a back lay-full-full for 100.29, the first time she had landed that triple. Three days later she won the individual title with the same jump, scoring 105.13 ahead of China's Xu Mengtao (99.16). FIS said she was the first aerials athlete to win two golds at a single world championships and the only woman to score over 100 in the superfinal.

Olympic champion

At her second Olympics, Kuhn finished fifth in women's aerials at Livigno on Feb. 18, 2026, the top American. Three days later she won gold in mixed team aerials with Chris Lillis and Connor Curran, 325.35 to Switzerland's 296.91, the second straight U.S. title in the event. She had placed eighth at Beijing 2022.

Before the Games came her first World Cup win, at Lake Placid on Jan. 12, 2026, an event moved from Deer Valley. She finished third in the 2025-26 aerials World Cup standings. Read the full profile story.

The 2026-27 season

U.S. Ski & Snowboard named her to the 2026-27 U.S. Freestyle Ski Team's aerials A team on Oct. 10, 2026. The FIS calendar brings the World Cup to Deer Valley on Jan. 28-30, 2027. She is one of the Utah athletes followed on the Utah 2034 Olympics hub.
