Champion Schools launched at a Salt Lake City elementary school, and the committee's published ceremony schedule put five of its seven stops outside the Salt Lake valley. The committee has not published the list of participating schools, which makes the program's actual reach impossible to measure.
Utah's first Youth Sports Giving Day passed its $3 million goal in hours
Organizers set a $3 million target and gave themselves two weeks. The Deseret News reported the goal was met within a couple of hours of Saturday's launch — and matching money is still on the table through September 26.
