Why this lane matters in Utah
Utah Tech made Utah a college pickleball power
Utah Tech students started a pickleball social club in 2021. By 2022 it was finishing second at the first Pickleball National Championship, and the university now designates pickleball an Extramural Varsity Sport, coached by Chloee Butterfield and Melinda Wilkins. The Trailblazers won the first College World Championship in Dallas in November 2025 and won it again on Nov. 1, 2026, beating FAU 3-2 from 0-2 down.
College pickleball is not an NCAA sport and pickleball is not an Olympic sport. Its college titles are decided at tour events such as the College Pickleball Tour's College World Championship and Nationals and the APP's U.S. Collegiate Championships, which is where these results come from.
What pickleball coverage on this site looks for
Official tournament results, organizer and school releases, and the players named in them. Pickleball is also growing below the college level in Utah: the Utah High School Activities Association's 2025-26 emerging sports summary lists pickleball among the few unsanctioned sports with enough member schools to reach its sanctioning-consideration threshold.
