Utah State sophomore Chahd Tourkhani left the Jon Messick Invitational in Fort Collins on September 20 with five wins from five matches. Tourkhani's five matches show how a fall weekend works
Tourkhani's singles run crossed three opponents and three scorelines. She beat Wyoming's Antonella Taco 6-4, 6-3, then recovered after dropping the second set against Colorado State's Diana Lizarazo to win 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5). She closed the Flight B draw with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Air Force's Shivaani Selvan.

The regional stage is large. The ITA says each 2026 Division I regional championship will use a 64-player singles main draw, a 64-player singles qualifying draw and a 64-team doubles main draw. Across the regional system, 26 singles players and 13 doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA championships.
That is why an early invitational result has to be described precisely. Winning a flight is a real tournament achievement, but it is not automatically an NCAA berth and it is not a team championship. Spring still decides the team champion
