Snow College basketball begins 2026-27 with new head coaches for both programs and an unusual opening weekend: both Badger teams open their seasons on Friday, October 30, at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, not at home in Ephraim. The women play Community Christian College at 5 p.m., and the men play Treasure Valley Community College at 7 p.m. Both programs compete in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, NJCAA Region 18. This preview covers Snow College men's basketball and Snow College women's basketball, from Snow College's official rosters, schedules and releases read on October 16.

Who coaches Snow College basketball in 2026-27?

Brad Kitchen coaches the men in his first season. Snow named him head coach on June 16, 2026. The Springville native knows the program: Snow's release says he was an assistant to Andrew May from 2022 to 2025, when the Badgers went 73-21 overall and 31-14 in the Scenic West, and that he coached Timpview High School to a 21-3 record and a Region 7 title in 2025-26.

Michael Shreeve coaches the women in his first season after being hired in the spring of 2026. His biography says he spent 2022 to 2026 as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at Utah Valley, on the staff of the 2024-25 team that went 19-13 and won the program's first postseason game, 70-64 over Air Force in the WNIT, and previously worked at Rice and BYU. Snow named Liana Kaitu'u his assistant on July 1.

Men: following a 29-win season

Snow's men went 29-5 and 12-3 in the Scenic West last season and 13-0 at home, per the official schedule. They beat USU Eastern 97-84 in the Region 18 tournament before losing to College of Southern Idaho, then reached the NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, where they beat Trinidad State 128-86 and lost 101-96 to Butler Community College in the second round, per Snow's March 24 release.

The roster turns over almost completely, as is common at a two-year program. Two players with 2025-26 statistics return: sophomore guard Max Toombs of Draper, a Corner Canyon High School graduate, who averaged 8.4 points, mostly off the bench, and made 36 of 92 three-point attempts, and sophomore guard James Rust of Provo, a Timpview graduate, who played 33 games. Toombs scored 15 points with five rebounds in the national tournament loss to Butler. Last season's All-SWAC players have moved on; one of them, Sean Felts, is now at Utah State.

Snow's August 7 signing release names the newcomers. Transfers include Julian Cuillier from McLennan Community College, which went 29-2, Kyler Hadfield, who averaged 10.5 points at Everett Community College, Amari Davis from Miami Dade and Max Rehl from Cal State Northridge. High school signees include Nash Schroeder, who averaged 22.0 points at Pine View.

Women: Sara Aoki and a young backcourt

Snow's women went 19-12 and 7-8 in the Scenic West last season and lost to College of Southern Idaho in the first round of the Region 18 tournament on March 12, per Snow's release.

Sophomore guard Sara Aoki of Sapporo, Japan, made the All-SWAC Second Team after averaging 9.0 points, second on the team, with 48 steals and a career-high 28 points against Midland, per the official statistics and release; she was also named SWAC Player of the Week on March 2. Sophomore guard Avery Allred of Grantsville started all 31 games and averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds, and Hillary Akomatsri of France averaged 8.3 points on 50.4 percent shooting in 21 games. Last season's First Team All-SWAC guard, Lala Baldwin, is not on the 2026-27 roster.

Jamborees, Richfield and the conference race

The men spent October at three preseason events that their schedule lists without opponents, with the season record still reading 0-0 afterward: the California National JUCO Shootout in Las Vegas on October 3, the Mullen/Gaso Jamboree in Duncanville, Texas, on October 9 and 10, and the Rocky Mountain Jamboree in Windsor, Colorado, on October 15 and 16. The women's schedule lists the North Colorado Jamboree on October 3, the SLCC Jamboree on October 16 and a scrimmage at Colorado Mesa on October 24.

The Richfield weekend continues on October 31, with the men playing Northwest College at 11 a.m. and the women playing Northwest College at 1 p.m. The men's first game at the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim is on November 3 against Colorado Northwestern Community College; the women's first Ephraim game is on December 11 against Western Wyoming. SLCC's schedules list both of its teams at Snow College on January 2 to open Scenic West play, and Snow's schedule lists the women's Region 18 tournament for March 12 and 13.
