Weber State volleyball is 4-1, unbeaten at home, and about to play three Utah opponents in five days. Utah State comes to Swenson Gym on September 15, BYU on September 17, and the Wildcats travel to Utah Valley on September 19.
Before that there is a tournament in Reno. Before any of it, there was a weekend in Ogden that set the tone for the season.
Weber State swept its own invitational
The Wildcat Invitational, August 28-29 at Swenson Gym, went 3-0 to the hosts.
Weber State beat San Francisco 3-1 on the Friday, then took both Saturday matches: San Jose State 3-0 in the afternoon and Belmont 3-2 at night. The Belmont match went the distance, which made it the only one of the three that could have gone the other way.
Three regular-season matches, three wins, and the first two of them against opponents from the West Coast Conference and the Mountain West. It is the strongest possible read on a home opening weekend.
Bakersfield split the next one
The road half of the non-conference schedule has been less straightforward. Weber State went to the CSUB Invitational and split a two-match series with the host: a 3-1 win on September 4, then a 3-2 loss on September 5.
That defeat is the only one on the record and it is the Wildcats' current streak. It also gives the season its shape so far: 3-0 at home, 1-1 on the road, and every match decided in four or five sets except the sweep of San Jose State.
The exhibition results before all of that are not part of the record, but they are worth knowing. Weber State lost 3-1 at Utah on August 15 and beat Westminster 4-0 in Ogden on August 21, with a Purple and White scrimmage in between on August 24.
Three Utah opponents in five days
The stretch that follows the Nevada Tournament is the most concentrated in-state run on the calendar.
Weber State hosts Utah State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, then BYU at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, both at Swenson Gym. The Wildcats then travel to Utah Valley in Orem on Saturday, September 19 at 3 p.m.
Two of those are Big 12 programs, and none of the three counts in the Big Sky standings. That is the useful thing about this week: it is the last of the non-conference schedule, it is played almost entirely against in-state opposition, and it arrives immediately before the part of the season that decides anything.
Before it, the Wildcats are at the Nevada Tournament in Reno — at Nevada on September 10 and against Kansas State on September 11, both at 7 p.m. MT.
The Big Sky opens on the road
Conference play begins September 24 at Eastern Washington in Cheney, followed by Idaho in Moscow on September 26. Weber State's first Big Sky home matches are Portland State on October 1 and Northern Arizona on October 3, both at Swenson Gym.
The conference schedule carries its own Utah footprint. The Wildcats visit Utah Tech in St. George on October 8 and Southern Utah in Cedar City on October 10, two days apart, in the first season all three Utah programs have shared the Big Sky.
Weber State Athletics' schedule release says the Wildcats have nine Big Sky home matches and 18 conference matches in 2026, and that every home match and every Big Sky match streams on ESPN+.
The local names on the roster
Weber State's posted roster includes junior setter Morgan Pratt of Mapleton, senior opposite Rose Moore of Lehi and freshman middle blocker Sophia Sparrow of Pleasant View, a Weber High graduate. Freshman outside hitter Alexis Carlson comes from South Jordan and Bingham High, and freshman libero and defensive specialist Reagan Williams from Draper and Corner Canyon.
Head coach Jeremiah Larsen is in his 12th season at Weber State. His official biography credits him with 184 overall wins and 109 Big Sky wins entering 2026, along with two Big Sky regular-season titles, two tournament titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
What five matches tell you
Enough to say the home floor is holding and not enough to say where the Big Sky finish lands.
Weber State has not lost at Swenson Gym this season and has beaten three non-conference opponents there. It has one road win and one road loss, both at the same venue in Bakersfield on consecutive nights, which is about as even a road sample as exists.
The three Utah matches in September are the last non-conference evidence before Eastern Washington on September 24. After that the record starts counting for something.
