About Southern Utah Gymnastics

Southern Utah gymnastics, the Flippin' Birds, hosts meets at the America First Event Center in Cedar City. Scotty Bauman completed his 35th season as head coach in 2026, the longest tenure of any SUU head coach, and in February the school extended his contract through the 2031 season. Jamie Wysong is associate head coach.

A new conference

Gymnastics joined the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026, the same day SUU's other 14 programs returned to the Big Sky, according to SUU's announcement. The Pac-12 gymnastics league has four teams: Boise State, Oregon State, Southern Utah and Utah State. Its 2027 championship is set for March 20 at Oregon State.

The 2026 season

SUU's schedule page prints a 10-13 record and 6-0 in conference, counting each opponent in a multi-team meet. The Flippin' Birds won the MPSF Championship at home on March 21 with 194.850, their fourth straight conference title across two leagues. Against their new Pac-12 rivals they beat Boise State at home on Jan. 9 and won at Oregon State 196.825-196.300 on Feb. 14, lost the March 13 rematch at Boise State 196.275-195.850 and lost all four meetings with Utah State.

On senior night, March 6, SUU beat Washington 196.900-195.550, and Niya Randolph scored 9.975 on floor, a program record. At the NCAA Tempe Regional on April 2, SUU placed fourth in its session with 195.725 while Randolph finished second in the all-around with 39.525. SUU's season review counts 2026 as a 14th straight regional appearance; its record book lists 20 regional years from 2000 through 2025, with no NCAA postseason in 2020.

Records and honors

SUU's record book lists a team record of 197.275, against Utah State on Feb. 19, 2021. In 2026 the MPSF named Randolph its Gymnast of the Year for a third straight season and Berlin Hall its Freshman of the Year.

SUU had not published its 2027 schedule when this page was checked on Oct. 18, 2026. The Utah college gymnastics guide covers all four of the state's programs, and the Pac-12 move story has the full conference background.
