Four Utah universities field NCAA Division I women's gymnastics teams: Utah, BYU, Utah State and Southern Utah. They split across two conferences for 2026-27, the Big 12 and the Pac-12, and they cross paths often. On Jan. 12, 2026, all four competed at the same meet in West Valley City, where Utah scored 197.300, Utah State 195.825, BYU 195.725 and Southern Utah 195.675.
Two conferences
Utah and BYU compete in the Big 12, whose gymnastics page lists seven teams: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Denver, Iowa State, Utah and West Virginia. Utah won both the 2026 regular-season title and the Big 12 Championship, its second straight season sweeping both. BYU finished third at the championship.
Utah State and Southern Utah are two of the four teams in the Pac-12's gymnastics league for 2026-27, alongside Boise State and Oregon State. Both arrive as champions of their old leagues: Utah State won back-to-back Mountain West postseason titles, and Southern Utah won a fourth straight conference title in its final Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season. Southern Utah's gymnastics program joined the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026, the same day the rest of its athletics department returned to the Big Sky. The Pac-12 lists its 2027 championship for March 20 at Oregon State.
The four programs at a glance
Utah, the Red Rocks, counts 10 national team titles, the 1981 AIAW championship and nine NCAA titles between 1982 and 1995, and reached 49 consecutive national championship meets before missing in 2026, according to Utah's media guide and season review. Carly Dockendorf is head coach, and the team competes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.
BYU competes at the Marriott Center in Provo under Natalie Broekman, named head coach in May 2026. BYU's history pages list eight NCAA Championships appearances between 1991 and 2005, and the Cougars made their 13th straight NCAA regional in 2026, as BYU counts it.
Utah State competes at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan under Kristin White. The 1991 Aggies are the program's only NCAA Championships team, and 2026 brought the program's 29th NCAA regional.
Southern Utah, the Flippin' Birds, competes at the America First Event Center in Cedar City. Scotty Bauman finished his 35th season as head coach in 2026, and SUU's season review counts 14 straight NCAA regional appearances.
Where the 2026 season ended
All four reached NCAA regionals in 2026. Utah went furthest: it won its second-round session at the Corvallis Regional and then finished third in the regional final on April 5, .125 short of a place at nationals. Avery Neff, Ella Zirbes and Ana Padurariu still competed at the NCAA Championships as individuals, and Neff placed seventh in the all-around.
BYU and Southern Utah met in the same session at the Tempe Regional on April 2, where BYU placed third with 196.250 and Southern Utah fourth with 195.725. Utah State placed fourth in its session at the Baton Rouge Regional the same day. RoadToNationals' final 2026 rankings list Utah 10th, BYU 22nd, Utah State 27th and Southern Utah 30th.
The in-state meets
The Les Olson IT Best of Utah meet at the Maverik Center brought all four programs together on Jan. 12, 2026, and Utah's win was its sixth straight at the event, by Utah's recap. The rest of the 2026 in-state schedule ran on two tracks. Utah beat BYU twice more, 198.025-196.025 on Feb. 13 and 197.650-196.550 in a March 7 tri-meet at the Huntsman Center, and beat Southern Utah 197.425-195.825 on Feb. 20. BYU won at Southern Utah 196.975-196.000 on Feb. 6. Utah State and Southern Utah met four times, and Utah State won all four.

The arenas
Each program has its own home arena: the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, the Marriott Center in Provo, the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, whose capacity USU's media guide lists at 10,270, and the America First Event Center in Cedar City. The Maverik Center in West Valley City hosts both the Best of Utah meet and the Big 12 Championship, and the Big 12 has extended that agreement through 2030. The NCAA's championship ticketing site lists the Huntsman Center as a regional host for 2028, from March 29 to April 2.
When the season runs
College gymnastics is a winter and early-spring sport. Utah's 2026 schedule opened with a home tri-meet on Jan. 2, conference championships fell on March 21, and NCAA regionals ran in the first week of April before the national championships in mid-April.
None of the four programs had published its 2027 schedule when this guide was checked on Oct. 18, 2026. The NCAA's championship ticketing site lists the 2027 selection show for March 22, regionals from March 31 to April 4, and the national championships for April 15 and 17 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The gymnastics section and Utah college gymnastics hub collect each team page, its official schedule link and every gymnastics story as the season approaches.
