Who is Scarlett Sonnenberg?
Scarlett Sonnenberg is a gymnastics athlete for BYU from Springville, Utah. Career highs through 2026: 9.950 floor, 9.925 beam, 9.875 vault; 2026 All-Big 12 Freshman team
A five-star arrival
Sonnenberg trained at Bold Gymnastics and went to Springville High School. In May 2025 she won the DP all-around national title with 38.975, and BYU's release that month called her the program's first five-star gymnastics recruit. She came into her freshman season on the Big 12's preseason team as an all-arounder.
A freshman season on three events
Sonnenberg competed vault, beam and floor through 2026. Beam was the most consistent: by mid-March she had strung together nine straight beam scores of 9.800 or better, with a career high of 9.925, and she won two beam titles. Her floor peaked at the right moment, a 9.950 career high at the Big 12 Championship on March 21 that tied for second on the event in the evening session. At the NCAA Tempe Regional on April 2 she added a career-high 9.875 on vault.
The Big 12's head coaches voted her onto the 2026 All-Big 12 Freshman team. She is a sophomore on the 2027 roster. Read more in the BYU gymnastics 2027 program guide and on the team page.
