SLCC Men's Soccer

Salt Lake Community College men's soccer plays at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman under head coach Mark Davis. It competes in NJCAA Division I and the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Unbeaten through eight

SLCC opened with a 3-0 home win over No. 13 Arizona Western on August 20 in Herriman. Esteban Fernandes scored from a free kick in the opening minute, Mekhi Haughton-Parris, a University of Kentucky transfer, added a second, and Matt Hagan scored with three seconds left. A 5-0 win over No. 18 Casper followed two days later in Murray, a match called in the 71st minute for lightning. The Bruins had beaten three NCAA teams in August scrimmages: Utah Tech, Colorado Mesa and Westminster.

In conference play they drew 2-2 at USU Eastern, won 4-1 at No. 14 Snow College, and drew 0-0 with CSI on September 19. SLCC's recaps moved the Bruins from No. 16 in August to No. 4 by September 17 (rankings as SLCC stated them). Alan Guzman and Sharif Sayawu led with five goals each after September 17, and Haughton-Parris had six assists.

What comes next

SLCC plays at Pacific Northwest Christian College on September 24 and at North Idaho on September 26. North Idaho led the Scenic West standings at 5-0 in conference play and 9-0-1 overall on September 24. SLCC then hosts USU Eastern on October 3 and Snow College on October 15. SLCC's schedule lists the Region 18 tournament for October 29-31 at the home of the SWAC winner.

Who is on the roster

The 29-player roster lists 16 players from outside the United States: four from Canada, three each from Brazil and Portugal, two from France, and one each from Bolivia, England, Ghana and Mexico. Nine list Utah hometowns, including midfielder Taylor Kogan (St. George, Dixie), goalkeeper JC Sanchez (Riverton) and goalkeeper Ariel Martinez (West Valley), who kept a clean sheet against CSI.
