Salt Lake Community College won both Region 18 soccer championships in Herriman on Saturday, Oct. 31. The women beat Snow College on penalties after a 2-2 draw, and the men beat North Idaho 3-1 to finish the region tournament unbeaten and earn a trip to the NJCAA national championship in Wichita, Kan.
In Price, SLCC volleyball swept USU Eastern to finish the regular season as Scenic West Athletic Conference co-champions. Both soccer teams had already won the Scenic West regular season on Oct. 24. Saturday added the region titles, and the volleyball result gave SLCC the right to host the Region 18 volleyball tournament.
Men: 3-1 over North Idaho, 16-0-3
SLCC, ranked No. 2, beat North Idaho in the Region 18 final and stayed unbeaten at 16-0-3, per SLCC.
Alan Guzman scored in the seventh minute. In the 50th minute, Mekhi Haughton-Parris curled a left-footed shot in off the post for 2-0. Taylor Kogan then set up Matt Hagan, who beat the goalkeeper with a powerful shot for 3-0. North Idaho scored in the 83rd minute, and goalkeeper Ariel Martinez finished with three saves.
Haughton-Parris, a University of Kentucky transfer, was named tournament MVP. SLCC's Kogan, Michael Radomski, Guzman, Hagan and Martinez joined him on the all-tournament team.
The final was a rematch of the Scenic West regular-season decider. On Oct. 24, SLCC beat North Idaho, then ranked No. 8, 3-0 at home to win the 2026 SWAC regular-season title and hand the Cardinals their first loss of the season. Haughton-Parris, Esteban Fernandes (his third free-kick goal of the year) and Radomski scored, per SLCC. That win also made SLCC the region tournament host, since the regular-season winner hosts this year.
In the semifinal on Oct. 29, SLCC beat Snow College 4-1 with all four goals in the first half. Kogan scored in the first minute and again in the 38th, Haughton-Parris and Radomski each scored and assisted the other, and Martinez saved a second-half penalty among his five saves.
SLCC's preview listed the men's SWAC championships as every year from 2018 through 2024, plus 2026. The national bracket is to be announced, SLCC said.
Women: a shootout win over Snow
The No. 12 SLCC women beat Snow College 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, avenging their loss to the Badgers in last season's Region 18 final, SLCC reported.
SLCC scored first on its first set piece, when Brooklyn Jones delivered the ball into the box and Lizzie Cowdell redirected it in the scramble. In the 17th minute, Seanna Harris scored off a through ball from Cowdell for 2-0. Snow answered with goals from Arie Bunce in the 26th minute and Summer Long in the 31st, and nobody scored after that, through the second half and extra time. SLCC said Snow had the closer chances late, with two shots off the woodwork.
In the shootout, Kamryn Weaver and Oakley Zenger scored for SLCC, and Snow missed its first two kicks. SLCC's third attempt was saved, and Alyssa Boydston and Keagan Grange converted to close it out.
Harris was tournament MVP, with Cowdell, Jones, Zenger, Kate Scoville and goalkeeper Manaka Shindo on the all-tournament team. Harris finished the regular season as the SWAC's leading goalscorer, per SLCC, with a hat trick in the 6-0 win over North Idaho on Oct. 24. That win, with the College of Southern Idaho's win over Snow College the same day, made SLCC the outright regular-season champion. In the semifinal on Oct. 29, SLCC beat USU Eastern 2-0 on a Harris penalty and a Zenger goal, and Shindo made seven saves.
SLCC's preview listed the women's SWAC championships as 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Next is the District Championship on Saturday, Nov. 7, against the Region I champion, per SLCC.
Volleyball: co-champions, and host of Region 18
In Price, No. 4 SLCC swept USU Eastern to close the regular season 24-5 overall and 10-2 in the Scenic West. That made the Bruins co-SWAC champions and gave them the Region 18 tournament, which they host on Nov. 4-5, SLCC reported.
Rylee Parkinson had 10 of SLCC's 38 kills. SLCC hit .221 and held USU Eastern, which finished 8-4 in the conference, to .059. Ellie Crosbie had four solo blocks and five block assists, and setter Swayzee Mason had match highs of 18 assists and four aces, with setter Teagan Sabillon adding 12 assists. Outside hitter Cameron Zajer's path from Adelaide to SLCC is in her profile.
