Salt Lake Community College women's soccer opened its 2026 season on Saturday, August 22, with a 4-0 win over Laramie County Community College in Murray. SLCC's recap ranked the Bruins seventh and Laramie County 14th, and it was the first regular-season match of the year for both teams.
SLCC scored twice in each half, kept a clean sheet and hit the crossbar three more times, according to the official recap. The Bruins also won more corner kicks than the Golden Eagles.
Who scored
Lizzie Cowdell scored twice. Alyssa Boydston added a goal, and Seanna Harris converted a penalty kick in the second half. Goalkeepers Manaka Shindo and Lexie Lund combined for the shutout. Claire Cypers, Teya Snowder and Harris each had an assist.
The scorers reflect how SLCC's roster is built. Cowdell is a sophomore from Sandy who played at Alta, Boydston a freshman from Pleasant View who played at Weber, Cypers a sophomore from Layton (Northridge) and Snowder a sophomore from Sandy (Hillcrest), according to SLCC's 2026 roster. Lund is from Kaysville. Harris, from Chandler, Arizona, and Shindo, from Fukuoka, Japan, are two of the four players on the roster who do not list a Utah hometown. The other 23 do.
The Utah majority runs deep. Three players on the roster come from Ridgeline High in Millville, two from Skyridge in Lehi and two from Mountain Ridge in Herriman, and the list of hometowns runs from Syracuse and Layton to Spanish Fork and Saratoga Springs. Head coach Amy Lepeilbet leads the program, according to the roster page.
A ranked opponent, and a clean sheet
A season opener against a nationally ranked team is a real test for a junior-college roster. Every player on SLCC's roster is a freshman or a sophomore, so each season's team has little time to settle before results count. Scoring four times against a ranked opponent, and not conceding, is about as clean a start as that schedule allows.
The margin was built from both halves rather than one burst. SLCC led 2-0 at the break and added two more after it, one of them Harris's penalty. Three more shots came back off the crossbar, so the scoreline could have been larger.
The opener followed two preseason scrimmages that SLCC's schedule lists without results: at Weber State on August 7 and against Colorado Mesa in Herriman on August 19. The Murray field was busy after SLCC's match as well. The schedule also lists Laramie County against College of Southern Idaho there on Monday, August 24, a match between two visiting teams.
Part of a strong opening week for SLCC
The women's result came in the same week as two other strong openers. On August 20, SLCC men's soccer beat No. 13 Arizona Western 3-0 at home in Herriman, and on August 22, the same day as the women's opener, the men beat No. 18 Casper College 5-0 in Murray, in a match called in the 71st minute because of lightning. In Fort Myers, Florida, SLCC volleyball went 3-1 at the Battle at the Beach, including a four-set upset of the host, No. 2 Florida Southwestern State.
That is three soccer shutouts and a winning volleyball tournament across three days for one department.
What's next
SLCC's schedule moves the women to the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman for their next two home matches: Northwest College on Thursday, August 27, at noon and Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday, August 29, at 11 a.m. Scenic West Athletic Conference play begins on September 5 at USU Eastern in Price, followed by a trip to Snow College in Ephraim on September 10.
Both Utah rivals visit Herriman in October: USU Eastern on October 3 and Snow on October 15. SLCC's schedule lists the Region 18 tournament for October 29-31, a district playoff on November 7 and the NJCAA national tournament from November 15 to 21.
