Westminster University basketball starts over in 2026-27, with new head coaches for both programs and three games against Division I opponents on each schedule. The men open the regular season at Montana State Billings on Monday, November 9, at 7 p.m. MT; the women open theirs against St. Edward's at Behnken Field House in Salt Lake City on Thursday, November 19, at 6 p.m. MT. This preview covers Westminster men's basketball and Westminster women's basketball, from the official rosters, schedules and releases read on October 16.
Who coaches Westminster basketball in 2026-27?
Casey Stanley coaches the men in his first season. Westminster named him head coach on April 13, 2026. His biography lists 18 years of college and national prep coaching, including 15 seasons at the NCAA Division I level, a 66-20 record as head coach at Layton Christian Academy, and two seasons as an assistant to Rick Pitino at Iona, including the Gaels' 2021 MAAC championship. His staff, per the official roster page, includes assistant coaches Jay Slone, Sanjin Kolovrat and Tommy Ball and special assistant Adam Peek.
Lynette Schroeder coaches the women. Westminster named her head coach on April 23, 2026. Her biography says she went 124-45 in six seasons at Southern Virginia, winning four USA South tournament titles and reaching four NCAA Division III tournaments, and coached Skyline High School to a 112-42 record and the 2017 4A state title. She also knows the program: she was a Westminster assistant in 2018-19, when the Griffins went 21-9 and made their first NCAA tournament. Brett Schroeder is listed as her assistant coach.
Men: Jake Nadauld and a 31-game slate
Westminster's men went 12-16 and 7-13 in the RMAC last season, and the program's September 2 release says the season ended without an RMAC tournament berth. Stanley's first schedule has 31 games, and he says in the release, "We have three Division I opponents on the schedule."
Redshirt sophomore guard Jake Nadauld of Springville is the most productive returner. He played 28 games with 17 starts, averaged 8.9 points, led the team with 104 assists and 40 steals, and made 27 of 63 three-point attempts, per the 2025-26 statistics. Senior forward Mitch Jeppesen of Centerville, a Viewmont High School graduate, averaged 5.0 points. The leading scorers from last season, Colin Hayes and Michael Frazier, are not on the 2026-27 roster.
As of October 16, the men's schedule opens with an exhibition at Weber State on October 24 at 5 p.m. MT. After Montana State Billings, the Griffins play UT Dallas and UT Tyler in Denver on November 13 and 14, visit Vanguard and Concordia Irvine, and host Northwest Nazarene in their first home game on November 24 at 5 p.m. MT. The schedule also lists exhibitions at UNLV on December 29 and at Utah State, which the schedule dates January 1 and the release December 31. The regular season closes on February 27 at Colorado Mesa.
Women: Ellie Mitchell and a veteran frontcourt
Westminster's women went 9-17 and 6-14 in the RMAC last season and finished with a 73-68 win at Chadron State. Their three leading returners are seniors.
Guard Ellie Mitchell of Springville led the team with 14.0 points a game and 53 steals and shot 83.3 percent from the line, per the 2025-26 statistics, and the RMAC named her to its First Team Academic All-RMAC with a 4.00 grade-point average. Forward Madison Anderson of West Jordan averaged 11.9 points and led the team with 6.9 rebounds and 23 blocks while shooting 52.2 percent. Forward Emily Evans of American Fork added 7.2 points and 6.1 rebounds a game.
As of October 16, the women's schedule lists three exhibitions before the opener: at Utah State on November 2, against Weber State on November 3 and at Idaho State on November 6. Westminster lists the Weber State game in Logan; Weber State's own schedule lists it at the Dee Events Center in Ogden at 6 p.m., so check both before travelling. After St. Edward's, the schedule, as of October 16, has Westminster hosting Cal Poly Humboldt on November 21 at 2 p.m. MT.
