Why this lane matters in Utah
Gymnastics is the anchor
Southern Utah gymnastics is the program that makes this lane necessary. The Flippin' Birds became a Pac-12 affiliate on July 1, 2026, joining a four-team league with Boise State, Oregon State and Utah State while the rest of the department went to the Big Sky — a school competing in two conferences at once.
They arrived with a record behind them: four consecutive conference championships and 14 straight NCAA Regional appearances. In their final Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season they went 6-0 in conference competition, which is how a team can finish 10-13 overall and still collect a title.
And the stories that belong to a whole department
Not every athletics story has a sport attached. An athletic-director appointment, a conference realignment that moves 14 programs on the same day, a weekly all-sports podcast — these shape every team at a school without belonging to any one of them.
This hub is where that coverage lives, alongside the Olympic-discipline programs that do not yet have a dedicated lane of their own.
